Family Courts

Alcohol misuse is a catalyst for many crimes that are officiated in a Family Court.

For domestic violence offenders, alcohol is a contributing factor in nearly 60% of cases. Putting the offender on SCRAMx helps the individual attain long-term sobriety, while reinforcing victim safety and helping to rebuild a shattered family. SCRAMx can be used as a condition of being able to reconcile with the family if the individual is being continuously monitored for drinking, and is otherwise fine when sober.

In cases where sobriety must be proven for one parent to regain child custody or visitation rights, SCRAMx provides evidence-based proof that individual is staying sober in compliance with court directives.

Key objectives of SCRAMx usage with Family Court offenders include:

  • Ensures compliance with court-ordered abstinence
  • Allows probation officers and courts to focus on those offenders who cannot control their drinking without assistance and are likely to endanger their family members when drinking
  • Promotes greater accountability
  • Provides evidence-based assessment and detection
  • Assesses the offender’s alcohol dependency and drinking patterns
  • Enables offenders to maintain jobs and family obligations, and contribute positively to the community while seeking treatment
  • Promotes better outcomes when combined with treatment
