Alcohol Monitoring Systems Wins Reversal on Patent Suit: Case Against Actsoft Remands to District Court
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., has reversed a previous determination by the Colorado Federal District Court regarding a patent infringement case brought by Denver-based Alcohol Monitoring Systems, Inc.(AMS) against Actsoft, makers of an alcohol testing bracelet marketed as “House Arrest Solution” and the “Tattle Tale” system.

Hennepin County Awards Offender Alcohol Monitoring Contract to SCRAMx: Hennepin Now Largest County-Level CAM Program in U.S.
The Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) has selected the SCRAMx alcohol monitoring system for the county’s Electronic Home Monitoring program. The new contract, approved by the county’s Public Safety Judiciary Committee February 1st, includes selection of an array of electronic monitoring systems to manage the county’s adult and juvenile offenders, both pre- and post-adjudication. The program will be managed by Fairmont-based Midwest Monitoring & Surveillance.

NHTSA Launches Second Study of SCRAM Alcohol Anklets: Agency to evaluate impact of alcohol-sensing anklets on recidivism.
As part of a larger initiative to investigate various approaches for reducing recidivism among convicted drinking drivers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched a nationwide study focused on the impact of SCRAM alcohol anklets. The study, which is concentrating on jurisdictions with SCRAM caseloads of 1,000 or more offenders, is being conducted by Preusser Research Group, Inc. (PRG).

SCRAMx Company Files Patent Suit Against BI Inc., a Pending Acquisition by The GEO Group
Denver-based Alcohol Monitoring Systems (AMS) filed suit today in Colorado’s Federal District Court asserting that Boulder-based BI, Incorporated, a pending acquisition of The GEO Group, has infringed multiple patents with their BI TAD (Transdermal Alcohol Detection) system. The GEO Group is one of the nation’s largest operators of correctional facilities.
In response to increasing demand from segments of the corrections market for their SCRAMx alcohol monitoring system, Denver-based Alcohol Monitoring Systems, Inc., (AMS) has formed a new Strategic Accounts division, focused on providing a delivery model for their technology to state and federal agencies and sheriff’s departments, while growing strategic Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partnerships within emerging new markets.
